Teresa Aikens at Epiphany Design Studio

I am happy to let you all know that two of my favorite things have recently come together: my mom's artwork and Nashville's design studio Epiphany!

My mom, Teresa Aikens, is a well respected arts educator from Mississippi who is gifted in so many different mediums: oil, sculpture, calligraphy, watercolor, etc...  Prior to her teaching career, she studied the origins and evolution of all types of art in college and beyond.  She has won Teacher of the Year awards, been commissioned for works at residential and commercial locations and was recently mentioned in Mississippi Magazine for her contributions to April's featured home.

Here are some of the paintings currently for sale at Epiphany in Nashville:

I know I am biased, but I also know these are truly beautiful works.  Using a flow technique, multiple layers of acrylic paint, traces of subtle iridescent elements and most importantly her artistic instinct, she pours her heart and talent into these- transforming each canvas into a delicious visual treat.

As I have this one in my home, I can speak from experience when I say that its modern, abstract, fresh and subtle qualities are a perfect complement for Epiphany's style.  My home is filled with pieces from Epiphany that I love, so it's a thrill to see her works now placed throughout the showroom- kinda feels like home!

Stop by Epiphany to see them in person and pick one up for your home.

Fun Finds: April

The month of April has proven to be a successful one already in terms of fun finds.  First is this galvanized metal obelisk etagere I found on sale at Retropolitan in Nashville.  Many thanks to Amy Heimermann for her help in getting this great piece to me.  Most I've seen are shorter, around 6 ft, but this one is quite tall at over 8 ft.  I'm enjoying the extra storage space and cool industrial, but classic look.

Next is this awesome greek key linen pillow, embellished with metallic accents.  This is from my favorite Nashville store, Epiphany.  Thanks to Julie Goad for suggesting I mix and match my neutrals, throwing in a bit of fun.  I'm loving this.  A great addition to my living room.

Yesterday while shopping in Franklin with my out-of-town family, I came across this amazing hat at a trunk show in Haven.  A snakeskin band and bow accents this hat quite nicely, as do the feathers and miniature skull detail.  It was great to see Claudia Fowler and all the new things she has selected for the Spring/Summer season.  Not sure where I'll wear this yet, but I'm sure I'll find somewhere special soon.

Fun Finds: Jewelry, Lamp and Finials

I've recently invited a few new things into my life: two pieces of vintage jewelry, a sleek industrial lamp and a trio of aged finials.  As you know, my favorite jewelry maker is the fabulous Christine Wallace.  Just today, she finished a horse-inspired brooch for me made from vintage chains and pins.

She also made a bracelet for my mom built around a vintage shoe buckle I purchased several years ago, which will now go into the gift closet for a future birthday or celebratory gift.  Once again, I'm so happy to have pieces brought to life with Christine's one-of-a-kind eye.

Last weekend, I went to Atlanta with my girlfriends and found this lamp at the Horchow/Neiman Marcus outlet 50% off!  My friend can confirm there was an audible gasp when I saw this on the shelf.  It was love at first sight, even before (but especially when) I saw the price tag.

I am also very pleased with my new trio of finials from where else but Epiphany, my favorite Nashville store.  I love these on my table, but I have a feeling I'll move them around to different areas of the condo just for fun.  They'd be great together or separate from each other.

I hope you all have as much fun out there as I have had recently finding fun unique things to cherish!

Fun Finds: Epiphany

My friends at Epiphany recently located some cool things for me that I'm excited to share with you.  First up is my new living room light.  I wanted a fixture that felt weightless in the space, unique in shape and industrial in construction.  I'd say they hit the nail on the head with this one!  The old fashioned bulb (also from Epiphany) adds a nice touch.

The cigar table below is both functional and beautiful, with an antique mirrored glass top and aged silver finish.  Perfectly sized to hold a remote, book or refreshing beverage.

Inside Scoop: Destination Nashville Pillows

I've always loved black and white city-specific destination art like the subway or street signs you always see for Chicago, New York and LA, but you never really see Nashville represented.  Well, my friends at Epiphany Design Studio recognized this need and now have a new exclusive that is super cool. The pillows pictured below were designed by Epiphany for the Nashville scene.  The company that produces these specializes in destination art and worked with Epiphany to create this custom line.

The sky is the limit with names and that is what brought Epiphany to have these made. A poll was taken to see which Nashville streets were most known and voila! The results? Lower Broad, Music Row, 2nd Avenue, Elliston Place and Printers Alley, all special places in the history of music. But why stop there? A second design was created, as Nashville is also known for some of the most famous bars in the US, including Tootsies and The Stage.  Then to accompany the two existing styles, a third was made with some of the most recognizable names to ever play in and call Nashville home. Each pillow is priced at $135 or you can customize your own with words that hold special meaning to you for only $150. Visit Epiphany to check these out in person or to design your own. You're sure to fall in love with these and all the other amazing finds in their beautiful showroom.

Additional scoop: Nashville inspired destination wall art is also being designed, so be sure and inquire about that if your wall could use an update. Those will be priced at no more than $330 which is a steal when you consider the destination art below from Restoration Hardware is priced at over $700 each.
