Make It Work: Champagne/Grey Color Combination

My new Make It Work series of blog posts (inspired by my future-self of the present, Tim Gunn) begins with this first one.  I'm excited about this because we'll find really great looks and accomplish a similar look or effect with things already in our closets.  Fun for my frugal and fiscally responsible, yet fashionable followers.

I came across this runway picture of a guy wearing an awesome champagne jacket with grey underneath.  I LOVE champagne and grey together, so I went through my closet and tried to pull together an existing/no-purchase-required pairing to match the inspiration look.  I came up with this Dolce & Gabbana jacket, grey shirt from J Crew, grey cardigan by Shades of Greige, dark jeans by Marc Jacobs and skinny tie by Diesel.  Although not an exact match, many elements are mirrored: the color combination being the most obvious, but also the textures.  In just one look, we find a shiny coat, coarse cardigan, structured shirt, soft dark tie and overall awesome layering!  You'd be amazed what you can make work with your existing wardrobe.  It's all about mixing it up and viewing each piece in a new light.

Inside Scoop: Sales, Music & Parties This Week

There are many great things happening this week in Nashville, so of course I've got your inside scoop. See below for this week's best in sales, music and parties.

Ruby's Money Concert at Imogene + Willie

The amazingly talented Shelly Fairchild has formed a new band called Ruby's Money and they are fantastic!  Shelley (a fellow Clinton, MS native) had a concert last week at 3rd & Lindsey and it was one of the best shows I have been to in years.  Absolutely epic.  She mixes funk, soul, pop and rock blending into an indescribable sound rooted in emotion and truth.  Don't miss her live acoustic show this Wednesday 11/17 at 7:30pm.  Bring a blanket, beverage of choice and enjoy the backyard performance. While you're there, check out Nashville's best denim and custom casual and classic clothing store, Imogene + Willie.

For The Guys: New York Fall 2010 Wish List

I'm headed to New York on Wednesday for a fun fall getaway. I am very excited because although I've been to the big apple many times, it's either been in the winter or summer months, never autumn. My favorite finds are always the unexpected ones, but I do have a few items I know of already that I will definitely be checking out in person. The first is this awesome black coat from Zara with a dramatic structured collar. The next is a pair of grey distressed Diesel jeans, which will go perfectly with the light brown and grey boots from All Saints. Thoughts?
